Josette Campbell, BS Program Assistant Director Women’s Residential Program

At Wellspring Living’s Women’s Residential Program (WRP), healing doesn’t happen overnight. It’s something that’s rebuilt day by day and supported moment by moment. For many of the women we serve, their healing journey starts after experiencing sexual exploitation, homelessness, trafficking, or long periods of instability. What comes next isn’t just about “recovering” from trauma, it’s about rediscovering who they are, feeling safe again, and beginning to hope again.

Safety is the foundation of everything we do. And for our participants, safety isn’t just physical, it’s emotional, psychological, and relational too. Our Direct Care Coaches show up consistently with compassion and care, helping create a space where participants can finally exhale, sometimes for the first time in a long time. Structure, respect, and healthy boundaries replace the chaos that many of our participants are used to, and over time, we eventually see that shift from survival mode to healing mode.

But safety by itself isn’t enough. Healing also takes connection. A lot of the women who come into WRP have been hurt in relationships, so trusting people again can feel uncomfortable or even impossible at first. That’s why we focus so much on building real, consistent, healthy relationships. Staff show up with patience and without judgment, and we let trust build naturally, at each participant’s pace.

We also provide clinical and case management support because we know trauma doesn’t just affect one part of someone’s life. Our therapists walk alongside participants as they process what they’ve been through and build tools to manage emotions and strengthen their resilience. At the same time, our case manager helps participants navigate daily living needs like healthcare, identification documents, education and employment goals. We understand that healing is a holistic process, and because trauma impacts every area of life, our services must support the whole person as well.

Another big part of the healing process at WRP is connection through our volunteers. Participants get the chance to spend time with people from the community who show up just to pour into them in positive ways. Dinner outings, gardening, arts and crafts, fashion shows, Christian concerts and events, financial literacy groups, self-esteem workshops, fitness groups, book club… the list goes on. These moments might seem simple, but they’re meaningful. They give participants space to feel normal again, to laugh, to try new things, and to rebuild trust in safe, healthy relationships.

At WRP, we’ve learned that growth happens in the small, everyday moments. Whether someone is working toward school, learning independent living skills, or just trying to build a consistent daily routine, every step forward matters, and we celebrate all of it, big or small. For some participants, that looks like making it to an appointment. For others, it’s speaking up for themselves. And some days, it’s simply getting through the day. It all counts.

At the end of the day, WRP exists to walk alongside participants as they take their lives back and start shaping what comes next. We’re not here to rush them or expect perfection. We’re here to be consistent, to care, and to remind each participant that healing is possible, even when it doesn’t feel like it yet.

Because with the right support, it really is.
